Yomiuri: Getting serious about fixing nation’s finances

The Finance Ministry has closed the books on budgetary requests for fiscal 2008 from ministries and agencies. The total amount of their requests reached 85.7 trillion yen, up about 3 trillion yen from 82.9 trillion yen in the initial budget for the current fiscal year.
