Uematsu headlined cross-company game music event
Everyone who is anyone in the game music industry gathered at Tokyo’s Studio Coast on Saturday for the Extra – Hyper Game Music Event 2007. Hordes of fans poured into the venue as the gates opened, eager to enjoy the performances of some of their favorite composers, Game Watch reported.
Konami’s Yamaoka Akira and Norihiko Hibino performed songs from Silent Hill and Metal Gear Solid 3, with pop singer Koyanagi Yuki providing the vocals for “Snake Eater”. A band made out of Sega’s sound team rocked the hall with music from After Burner, Out Run and Daytona USA. On the DJ stage, Nintendo’s Tanaka Hirokazu played tracks from Balloon Fight, Wrecking Crew, Dr. Mario and Metroid, while Bandai-Namco’s Okubo presented a sweet mix of music from the Ridge Racer-series. Other performances included a special Capcom-medley signed Tamayo, several pieces from Guitar Freaks, and many others.
Special guest for the evening was famous Final Fantasy-composer Uematsu Nobuo, accompanied by his own heavy metal band, The Black Mages. After driving the crowd wild with music from Final Fantasy 3, 5, 7 and 8, Uematsu took the opportunity to mention that the band is currently in the studio recording their next album.
