Final Fantasy anniversary to be celebrated with limited edition ‘potion’ sales
Video game developer Square Enix will celebrate the 10th anniversary of the release of popular video game Final Fantasy VII through a limited edition soft drink Final Fantasy VII 10th anniversary potion, to be sold in a set with an anniversary book, Game Watch reported on Wednesday.
The Final Fantasy VII 10th anniversary potion will be the first step in a series of promotional activites carried out to commemorate the release of the 1997 best-seller. Brewer and distiller Suntory Limited, famous worldwide for their whisky, will produce the drink, which will be strictly non-alcoholic. Square Enix teamed up with Suntory in 2006 for a similar venture, when they released the limited edition Final Fantasy XII potion soft drink.
The drink will be sold in a set with the book Final Fantasy VII 10th Anniversary Ultimania.
According to the Game Watch report, the taste of the “potion” is said to be inspired by the Final Fantasy VII character Sephiroth and his “isolatedness” and “beauty”. It is set to include interesting ingredients such as dolomite (to represent “the earth crust’s energy”), royal jelly and vitamin B1.
The soft drink/book set will be sold throughout Japan from September 13, limited to 77,777 sets, at a price of 3,980 yen (US$33).
