Heavy Metal rebirth celebrated in Akihabara

Fans of computer game company Nihon Falcom lined up in Akihabara on Monday as the “rebirth” of heavy metal video game music group jdk Band was celebrated with a live concert at Club Goodman, Dengeki Online reports. The original J.D.K.Band was formed in 1990, and became famous for arranging hard rock versions of the music from Nihon Falcom games (not to be confused with the Falcom Sound Team jdk, who were the actual composers). They released their last album in 1994.

The 2007 version of jdk Band has a complete new line-up of musicians, and was joined on stage by singers Watanabe Ikarus and Kodera Kanako.

At 15:30, the first part of the concert begun. It featured music from role playing game The Legend of Heroes VI – Sora no Kiseki, which had its third chapter released in June this year. Songs included the instrumental Fate Confrontation, as well as Cry for me, cry for you and I Swear… with Kodera on vocals.

Later, at 19:00, following a brief instrumental visit to Valestine Castle, grand The Ark of Napishtim opening track Release of the Far West Ocean started up the second part. This time focusing on the flagship series Ys which is celebratating its 20-year anniversary this year, the band performed tracks such as Scars of the Divine Wing, Scarlet Tempest and Ernst, before vocalist Watanabe ended the set with Mighty Obstacle. The crowd, however, demanded more, and Watanabe was soon joined by Kodera for another take on the Ys 6 opening track which became the mighty encore of the evening.
