Aya Ueto reveals conservative perspective on love

Popular 21-year-old actress and singer Aya Ueto attended a press conference ahead of the 2-part TBS TV-series “Wachigaiya Itosato” at the TBS office in Asakusa, Tokyo.

Wachigaiya Itosato is a historical drama set in the Edo-period and is based on the novel by the same name by author Jiro Asada. Ueto takes the title role of the geisha Itosato, who falls in love with Hijikata Toshizo, the deputy leader of the Shinsengumi, the shogunates special police force, played by Hideaki Ito.

“The weight of the costume was around 30 kg. I felt as if I were about to collapse on the spot if I lost my balance just a little,” Ueto told reporters of the hardships of recording. Ueto also revealed she yearns for an Edo-style love - “The woman always walking three steps behind the man, that’s my ideal,” Ueto said laughingly.

The show is to be aired September 9, at 9 p.m.
