KAT-TUN’s Jin Akanishi to play high school celebrity in first drama
Jin Akanishi, member of the popular boy band KAT-TUN, belonging to the legendary Johnny’s Entertainment talent agency, will play the lead role in the upcoming Nihon TV drama “Yukan Club,” Japanese news portal Iza! reported on Wednesday. This will be the first time Akanishi appears on a TV drama without the other band members.
The drama, produced by Tetsuhiro Ogino, is based on the popular “shojo manga” (comic aimed at a young female audience) by the same name, written by Noriko Fujimoto (pen name: Yukari Ichijo). The story revolves around a famous high school where six of its celebre pupils have formed a “leisure club” to kill time. They end up resolving and solving incidents and mysteries while showing off their exceptional talents.
Akanishi will play the son of the Superintendent General of the Metropolitan Police, whose main trait in the manga was his many connections, especially in yakuza circles.
“It will be my first drama (without the other KAT-TUN members), but I will try not to think too hard about that and do my best to avoid letting down the fans of the original manga,” Akanishi commented.
