Homeless junior high school bestseller to become movie
Movie studio Toho Company announced Thursday they will produce a screen adaption of Comedian Hiroshi Tamura’s autobiography “The Homeless Junior High School Student” (Hoomuresu Chuugakusei), the Sports Hochi reports.
Now 28-year-old Tamura, member of the comedy duo Kirin, saw his family break up while he was still in junior high school, forcing Tamura to occasionally spend his nights in public parks. The autobiography tells frankly about the various hardships Tamura went through, such as having to eat cardboard to survive.
His autobiography was released in September and had by November sold more than 1 million copies, making it the fastest selling non-fictional book in Japan on record.
Toho is yet to reveal the casting and director of the movie, which is scheduled for a theatrical release in June.
