Sales tax of 7% said OK to fund welfare

Left with little choice but to raise taxes to fund welfare programs, a consumption tax hike from 5 percent to 7 percent would be acceptable to the people if the additional revenue was used to pay for nursing-care services, welfare minister Yoichi Masuzoe said Thursday.
