Aoki and Koshiishi strike accord on Upper House president post
Mikio Aoki and Azuma Koshiishi, Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) and Democratic Party of Japan’s (DPJ) upper house caucus leaders, respectively, met on Monday to decide on the Upper House president for the upcoming Diet session, after Sunday’s Upper House election which broke the dominance of the LDP in favor of the DPJ, the Asahi Shimbun reports.
No names were decided on but the two came to an agreement that the DPJ, now the largest party in the Upper House, would assign the president, while the LDP, now second largest, would assign the vice president.
A Kyodo News reports suggested Azuma Koshiishi and Satsuki Eda, former state minister in charge of science and technology, were likely candidates for the post.
