DPJ leader Ozawa tells of bout with cancer on talk show

Democratic Party of Japan (DPJ) leader Ichiro Ozawa revealed Thursday on a TV Asahi show that he experienced a brief bout with cancer just after he was elected president of the party, the Asahi Shimbun reports.

Ozawa admitted doctors had found a minor thyroid gland tumor just after he was elected leader of the DPJ in 2006, but added it was no big deal and he had healed completely since then.

Ozawa’s appearance, which was his first ever on a talk show, was described as surprisingly open by the Asahi Shimbun. Ozawa reportedly answered questions on questions ranging from breakfast to his health in a jovial manner.
