Science Minister joins in on UFO debate: ‘It would be fun if they existed’
Education and Science Minister Kisaburo Tokai said during a press conference held Friday he hoped aliens existed, so children would become more interested in space, Japanese media reports.
“They exist, don’t they? It would be fun if they did,” Tokai said and became the third member of the Cabinet to make his views on UFOs official in a debate sparked by a question to the Cabinet by Democratic Party of Japan (DPJ) lawmaker Ryuji Yamane.
The cabinet started its regular meeting Friday with a lively discussion about UFOs, despite other pressing issues and a new poll showing a sharp fall in public support.
“As long as it doesn’t scare people, I think it is fine to talk about UFOs,” Tokai was quoted as saying by the Yomiuri Shimbun. “There have been films like ‘ET.’ It might make children grow up with an interest in space.“
Tokai’s comments came three days after Chief Cabinet Secretary Nobutaka Machimura surprised journalists by exclaiming he “definitely believes in the existence of UFOs,” and a day after Defense Minister Shigeru Ishiba expressed concern over legal issues if Japan’s Self-Defense Forces would have to respond to an alien invasion.
But not everyone is happy about the amount of time given to the UFO debate. “Give me a break,” Liberal Democratic Party lawmaker Toshihiro Nikai was quoted as saying by the Yomiuri Shimbun. “There are many other things politicians have to respond to.“

I think the remarks from japan over the past week have been great, this cover up has gone on long enough in the United States and other governments and personaly i think this issue is close to being released to the public. It would be great to finally here the truth from world leaders that we are not alone in this universe, i mean heck it would be boring if we were alone.
For 60 years this has been denied and covered up from the late 40s, to prevent panic in the cold war, but we are long over due for disclosure and it’s time for the world to know.
The amount of evidence is huge if you study this subject carefully and can no longer be ignored.
I hope Japan blows the lid off this cover-up!!
Yeah I hope more politicians realize it’s a serious issue that needs exploration. Assuming nothing is there has got to be one of the most ignorant things you could do as a country. If vehicles are entering your air space without your knowledge, that’s a hugeee security breach, and must be addressed.
I’m glad the Government of Japan is letting their polititians to talk about UFOs and opening the hypothesis of Extraterrestrials, so that we are not alone… I hope and is my desire that more countries will join this opportunity to talk openly about this issue, and end the “cover up” for more than 70 years… IT’S TIME FOR DISCLOSURE!
Japan, The U.S. and other countries could take a cue from The British Ministry Of Defense. They have decided to release 160 of their UFO related files in one fell swoop. No more will you have to try to obtain these files via individual FOIA requests. The files to be released were originally slated to be destroyed due to asbestos contamination. They have since changed their minds
brain-flu or lack of psychiatrists in japan?
I can tell you, they definitely exist! My family and friends have been seeing them almost every night all summer, here in Lake Tahoe, California. They sit over the mountaintops around the lake, far brighter than the stars. It seems like they’re watching or guarding the Lake. The stars and planets move, but these things generally don’t. But sometimes they move very quickly, and when they do, you can tell they are NOT stars. It is shocking to see, at first. They are close, too, inside the Lake Tahoe Basin, and maybe a thousand feet up. I spent the night up on the rim of the Basin this summer and saw one from above!
My son caught one on camera two months ago, that we watched for three hours. It was flying back and forth, about a thousand feet up. I’ll send the photo to anyone who would like to see it. Many nights, we can see three or four at a time.
I saw my first one in 1992, from my snowcat at a ski area on Echo Summit near Lake Tahoe. It raced all over the sky, for almost two minutes, hovering still, then moving in a blur, jumping three miles in an instant. Then it took off straight up, like a bullet, streaking into the stars. I could see it for a long time before it disappeared. That event totally changed my life. I’ve watched the sky every night since then.
We have seen a total of five different kinds, but mostly there are two kinds that sit over the mountaintops around us- one kind is silver, and flashes blue, red, amber, white. The others are large golden globes, that are usually in groups of three to five. They sometimes line up in perfect formation, like the Phoenix Lights. They’ve made triangles, crosses, and stacked up one over the other, right over Heavenly Valley, up to several miles high.
They are everywhere. Mostly, you need to be where it is extremely dark to see them. But also, you need to believe they are up there, because if you don’t, you may be looking right at one and not realize what you are seeing. That’s what it took, for me. I didnt see any for many years, after the first one, until I met someone who told me where to look, and what to look for. Since then, I’ve been seeing them constantly. They ARE HERE. For REAL. And I’ll gladly send you a photo, and tell you more about them, if you’d like. Contact me at
