48% say Abe should resign - net survey

In an internet survey conducted by the Yomiuri Shimbun on Tuesday, 48% of respondents said they think Prime Minister Shinzo Abe should resign if his ruling coalition fails to get a majority of the seats up for grabs in the upcoming July 29 election, while only 26% replied he should not resign.

However, among Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) supporters, 71% replied Abe should not resign, while only a minority of 15% thought he should.

In the case that the opposition should fail to gain a majority, 43% replied they would like to see Democratic Party of Japan (DPJ) leader Ichiro Ozawa resign, while 29% said he should not. This in spite of the fact that Ozawa has previously announced he will resign from politics all together if the opposition loses out in the election.
