47% think Abe should resign
47% say they would like to see Prime Minister Shinzo Abe resign, after his Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) faced a crushing defeat in Sunday’s Upper House election, while only 40% would like to see him go on, according to an Asahi Shimbun opinion poll presented on the newspapers website, Wednesday.
The poll, which was conducted from Monday evening to Tuesday night, also found that support rate of Abe’s Cabinet has sunken to 26%, which is the lowest rate since Abe stepped into office in September last year. Disapproval rate too were at its highest measured, at 60%. LDP’s support rate was down to 21%, while Democratic Party Japan, now the largest party in the Upper House, saw a support rate of 34%.
81% said they thought the LDP have issues, while only 34% said they think that the reason for the LDP’s loss lies with the prime minister, while 59% said they thought it did not.
Only 4% answered “yes” when asked whether they thought DPJ party leader Ichiro Ozawa is “good”, further enforcing the notion that it was not as much DPJ popularity as LDP discontent that caused the Upper House majority shift.
