Abducted Japanese student may have left Iran, officials say
The Iranian armed group that are holding the 23-year-old Japanese university student Satoshi Nakamura captive have left Iran, possibly for Pakistan, a spokesman for the Iranian government said at a press conference held Saturday, the Mainichi Shimbun reports.
The spokesman said Iran will continue its efforts to help free Nakamura, but also pointed out that Japan will need to seek help from Iran’s bordering countries. Nakamura is however still thought to be safe and in a good condition.
The Japanese government confirmed it had received reports that the armed group is travelling between several countries.
Although an Iranian official told Japan’s foreign minister that Nakamura was still believed to be in the country on Wednesday, it has now been suggested the armed group left Iran almost immediately after abducting Nakamura.
Nakamura, a Hiroshima University student, was abducted while visiting the Iranian city of Bam two weeks ago.

I wonder if they are Balochs. Their traditional area is divided between Iran, Pakistan and Afghanistan. My understanding is that they are Sunni and Persian-related ethnically.
I get this information from things I have read in Wikipedia, and around the web.
