Man arrested for 1,500 counts of phone harassment

A 38-year-old company employee was arrested Monday in Nara Prefecture on suspicion of phone harassing a 44-year-old woman he had no relation to but had seen at his work, the Yomiuri Shimbun reports.

According to the police investigation, the man called the same woman’s home telephone approximately 1,500 times under a period of 5 years, saying obscenities.

The 38-year old man was found out when he sent an e-mail message to the woman’s cell phone, saying “If you want to talk, give me a call” and giving his own number.

The suspect told police he had no interest in the woman, but took pleasure in hearing her response.
