Primary school teacher threatened to cut off student’s tongue

A 3rd grade home-room teacher at a primary school in Takatsuki, Osaka Prefecture pretended he was about to cut the boy’s tongue off, it was learnt on Thursday. Additionally, the teacher came up with a nickname for the boy, who ended up skipping school for two days, the Asahi Shimbun reports. The municipal Board of Education said the teacher deeply regrets having hurt the boy, and wants to make sure it does not happen again.

According to the Board of Education, the 53-year-old male teacher reacted to the boy making private conversation to a classmate during class, and grabbed a scissor saying “I’ll cut your tongue off!” as well as asking for permission from the other pupils, “Do you mind if I cut it off?“

The teacher also gave the boy the nickname “Noritama-kun” for the boy, referring to a furikake (rice condiment), since the boy had a few grains of rice stuck around his mouth. Other classmates started calling the boy by the nickname, who skipped school for the following two days. After the boy’s mother protested to the school, the headmaster and the home-room teacher apologized to the boy.
