Shinshu University student robs and stabs female customer at internet cafe
A 21-year-old man was arrested by local police Monday after he had attacked a female customer at a Kyoto internet cafe with a 12.5 cm long kitchen knife and stolen the women’s wallet, the Asahi Shimbun reports.
The man, now suspected of robbery and inflicting bodily harm, is a 3rd year student at the prestigious Shinshu University, in Nagano. According to the police report, the man sneaked up behind the woman while she was using a computer at the internet cafe “Manyuto” in central Kyoto. The man inflicted light cutting wounds on the woman’s neck and left wrist and tried to leave the scene with her wallet, but three male customers who had overheard the woman screaming held the man down until the police arrived.
At the time of arrest, the 21-year-old had only a few hundred yen on him. He later told the police he committed the crime because he wanted money, the Asahi reports.
