Man leaves 10m yen lottery ticket at sales counter without claiming prize
A man visiting the “PIA Town” shopping center in Tsuchiura, Ibaraki Prefecture left his winning lottery ticket, good for 10 million yen (approx $87,000 USD) by the counter of the lottery shop, the Sankei Shimbun reported on Tuesday. Local police say it’s likely that the man did not realize he had a winning ticket.
According to the police investigation, the man visited the lottery shop “Dream Jumbo Takarakuji” on Sunday and presented a ticket, where he was told he had won a prize and was asked to wait, but left the counter after a few moments, without his ticket. The police suspects the man jumped to the conclusion that he had drawn a blank.
The manager of the lottery shop reported the incident to the police on Monday, in spite of the rule the lottery has that says that if the winner does not show up within 6 months, the prize will go to the manager.
