japanese people work hard enough to make a living to keep themselves and their families afloat. the last thing a family expects as they wait for the bread winner to return home is a policeman at the door informing them that some yobo of the us military has brutaly dispensed of their loved ones life.criminal acts by the us forces abroad seem to be coming a habit. do you realy need their prescence in japan?
Though its true that Japanese people work hard to keep their families afloat but guess what its the same for all countries. I understand what your feeling but hey you can’t blame all US forces for the acts of a few. That’s like saying all Muslims are terrorists or all police officers are corrupt. The presence there in Japan is a neutral agreement, both sides benefit from the US troops staying there. Japan gets the boosts in Protection in case China, N. Korea or any other Communist country tries to attack. If they would just put a curfew and a limit on drinking and partying on the Marines and Navy then I think things will start to go well.
I hate to see this kind of thing that’s going on. I admit that most American Mens are bad, and some are nice people. But this bad people must pay back the damaged that they done. The lost of their love ones should pay money to them the victims family for life. I don’t think it is good idea to let this kind of people in Japan. They must stay in the malitary base instead letting go on there own in city of Japan. they should have some kind of hand print and pictures takened once they let out! and passport to let go out side the base. They must change the law and make it strict to this Malitary solders to let them out to city of Japan. This are foreign solders they should not welcome here in Japan. Becuase the don’t have the rights to kill someone and make lot’s of trouble like this incedents. They should make strict laws against this malitary solders. They will loose there prevalidge going out from the base. And the Malitary Base will pay the demages becuase they are the responsible for their solders. From: John.
Being part of the US Forces, this particularly strikes a nerve. Isn’t it our JOB to protect innocent people, not defecate all over peace not to mention the US Forces reputation, which isn’t in it’s greatest shape to begin with at the moment. Let’s face it, the actions of the few, being of such a magnitude, are starting to speak for the whole of the US Forces and make us look like savages. People like this should pay the ultimate price for their actions.
I used to be part of the the Navy and was stationed on the Kitty Hawk in Yokosuka. From my experience the reason why incidents like these have happened time and again is because most of the military men don’t have respect for the Japanese people. A lot of them didn’t want to come to Japan in the first place, but are here anyways because the military needed them here. So, they are here not knowing anyone, not knowing Japanese so communication is also a problem for them, and I can attest that a majority of them are highly dissatisfied with their job in the military. All this contributes to high stress levels while being on edge. Apparently some of the servicemembers can’t take it and go crazy, which results in acting out, namely murder, theft, etc. But putting a strict curfew does not really help in the long run, is because everyone is not like that. It just punishes servicemembers that were not part of the incident, and makes them frustrated, so their chances for doing something crazy actually increase, wether they act out onbase or offbase. Just cause one person commits a crime, doesn’t mean his associates are guilty as well.
