Circle K Sunkus stops sales of lunch boxes containing Chinese eel
Frozen food manufacturer Katokichi decided on Friday to reexamine the safety of eel it had imported from China, since it was learned that the Chinese middle hand company that had exported the eel had been included on the Chinese governments food export black list. Convenience store Circle K Sunkus have since decided to hold back the sales of a lunch box containing eel imported through the company, the Asahi Shimbun reported.
Katokichi stated that the eels cleared the Ministry of Healthl Labor and Welfare’s hygiene control at the time of import, but Circle K Sunkus have nonetheless temporarily interrupted the sales until the “safety of the food can be confirmed.“
The Chinese company was included on a Chinese government black list of 41 companies it banned from exporting any kind of food, which was presented Tuesday. The company had, according to the Chinese authorities, used illegal chemicals on some products and had not attained the proper licenses for food exporting.
