Japanese islands broil in fierce heat wave

The Japanese islands saw the hottest day this year yet on Saturday, when temperatures rose above 35°C in all of Japan, except for in Hokkaido and Okinawa, the Sankei Shimbun reports.

In Toyooka, Hyogo Prefecture, temperature reached 38.6°C - touching the highest record ever measured there. Tatebaya in Gunma Prefecture, northwest of Tokyo, hottest in the Kanto region, reached 38.3°C, while Tokyo saw temperatures up to 38.6°C.

Four locations throughout Japan recorded the hottest temperatures ever measured.

The Japan Meteorological Agency predicts that the heat will linger on for a bout a week, and is warning of heat attacks.
