  4. We see this event as just another justification for removing the majority of the US Military Bases on Okinawa.
Our film “Why Okinawa? Messages From the People” covered only one base considered the most dangerous military base in the world, we did not have sufficient time to even put a dent in the number of violent crimes against our people on Okinawa.
As far as Killing perpetrators it just would be nice to know that crimes committed are treated seriously and the Military personnel are treated as criminals which many times they are not.
As for the 3 Marines who raped a 12 year old in 1995, a little known fact is that one of the men who spent 5 years in prison, was not treated as a sexual predator upon his return to the USA, and because he was not, he was able to go where he wanted and when he did, he raped and then murdered a female college student, then committed suicide.
We think if the Military would treat these men as sexual predators and register them as sex offenders, future incidents might not occur, but who is responsible for the victims in future cases when the US has to be forced to deal with these men. It would be nice if their commanders were also charged, then we might see some changes.

Why does it take a large scale demonstration before the US decides to do something to prevent these things from happening.

Why do we Okinawans have to live in fear of the Military who claim to be there to protect us.

We ask Why do we need protecting? and from whom?

  6. Will, I think your observation is actually offensive to chestnuts. Please find a MUCH tinier object with which to compare Mr Ono’s cerebral cavity.

As an American citizen (though not a very proud one, as my people go), I feel like this type of behavior is a problem in US society at large, most likely a product of our flawed socioeconomic situation & collective sense of moral values, as a people group. Nowhere else in the world that I’ve lived & traveled in my 30 years so far (currently including most of North/Central/South Americas, Western Europe & parts of East Asia) have I been as impressed with a nation’s mindset towards how to live good, complete lives alongside many others also, than right here in Okinawa & really in Japan, as a whole. The commitment to educating their children to respect & honor others is quite evident, not only in the extremely low violent crime rates (we often don’t even lock our doors except when we think of the US degenerates that are nearby), but also in their actions & attitudes towards us as we move about & interact. I am quite ashamed & saddened that we taint it with our American perversions & illicit behaviors with our large number of US military personnel here, who themselves are but a sampling of our general US society. Thus, the problem does not start within the military but rather from US society. The fact is that the military offers an attractive option to almost every US citizen who has had major challenges in their life & desire to rise above them. That is most often what military service provides those that sign over their rights & freedoms. Unfortunately, sometimes that also means that these citizens’ demons come with them, manifesting their ugly heads & plaguing peoples in other lands where they get stationed, rather than among the people that allowed the demons to be created at all.

But I also ask you to consider something. Is Japan completely without dessert in this situation? Perhaps had a greedy & egotistical empire had not tried to take over the entire Asian & Pacific hemisphere 70 years ago & then attacked our nation “preemptively”, things might be different today. But it’s not. What we have here is what it’s become.

It’s a complex situation. Definitely sad but definitely not easily quantifiable to just 1 or 2 core issues that we can just throw into a jail cell & be rid of. I’m not saying that Japan needs constitutional reform to provide their own national defenses by men who will respect & honor the people they serve, but if they don’t, I’m not sure they’ll ever be free of all of the American scum that enter the military & fool their superiors into thinking they’re in line, until that one evening when they’re on their motorcycle cruising off-base in central Okinawa, when a group of short-skirted teenage girls gives them some desperately wanted attention. Those demons are real & they aren’t always easy to detect until they bite.

  8. Mr. Murphy which Japan do you live in. While I prefer living here to the US, I don’t share the same fairy tale version you speak of above. It’s nice that you make it out to be something like a movie. American perversions and Illicit behaviors??? The Japanese have written a whole new book on perversions.

Both my children attend Japanese schools and the Americans in the area are the least of my concerns, messages come home monthly about some suspicious older Japanese man soliciting girls in the area. Rapes of young girls are a regular thing here that go unreported or unpunished if the perp can pay his gomen money.

The American scum that you define are held in greater regard by the majority of the population in Okinawa than the Japanese military. Ask an Okinawa which would you rather have in Okinawa, American or Japanese military, first answer will be neither, second most likely will be American. For all the mistakes they have made here through the years, I can say collectively the “barbarians” don’t even begin to constitute a percentage point of all the crimes that are committed here in Okinawa. I think most of all what the people here want confirmed is that the punishment will be just. A punishment that in recent years has handed out by a Japanese court that choose to give what I would consider light sentences.

This guy will most likely get what he deserves and then some as the politicians have taken over and the truth will never be known. Not a single person in the media or government cares what the actual welfare of this girl is, she will get used worse by her own people and government than what this SSgt is being accused of doing to her.

And ONO you are an idiot… Why would you wish rape upon anyone, maybe you need to experience it yourself before hoping that would happen to even the evilest of people.

  10. Dan, sounds like we agree on a hell of a lot. Cool. Can’t say I envy your position as father to gals facing Japanese perversions, but I think my childless state speaks plenty to anything I can counter to you in that regard - I got nothing. Fact is, there is no real Japanese military, that’s supposedly what our troops here are, Japan’s defense. We’re supposed to be defending for them not against them. I live in the Japan that I’ve been travelling for exactly a year. I can compare it’s treatment of human beings vs that of the US only toward a very narrow demograph, my wife & myself. If crimes are indeed being underreported & gotten away with silently, then that’s the ONLY explanation because it sure as hell is rarely seen. Please realize that the American scum I define include a very narrow set of individual servicemen, those that commit crimes against an innocent people (like the rapists in ‘95 & the kids that beat up a cab driver the other day & the jerks that drive like maniacs in 30 MPH zones all over the place & this Mr Hadnott, even if he did just kiss a 14 yr old against her will, that’s enough to make him scum in my dictionary). Thank you for pointing out even more complex situations that exist in relation to this story. I say it again, it ain’t simple but it sure is sad.

  12. Thanks for the reply, glad to see you’ve got an open mind to the situation. I really do hope they throw the book at this guy, but with certain stipulations. You got him for molestation, and it makes me sick that she happens to be 14, but I’ve seen situations before where the girls look older and will lie about there age for the thrill of catching an older man, most of the guys find out, after the fact, the real age and then the personal damage is done. There is also a subculture here of school girls all the way down to elementary that sell themselves to make money to buy the crap pushed on TV. The are after a lifestyle and will do anything to get there. I am not in anyway implying that this girl lives her life that way, but when her group of friends let her get on the back of a motorcycle with a clearly older man, certain things have to come in question. If he knew her age and still pursued as well as pushed the issue beyond where she was comfortable then castrate the man, put cement blocks on his feet and introduce him to one of the many deep trenches in the oceans surrounding Okinawa. None of what I would like to know will ever be answered because as I mentioned before, this is now a talking point to pursue a specific agenda, the removal of the US military.
